Camp Frequently Asked Questions
What is this camp?
Nature-based developmental enrichment camp run by a seasoned occupational therapist. Volunteers and/or interns may assist. Goal of this camp is to use nature to build gross and fine motor skills, strength and coordination, and emotional and social skills. And just to have fun! Activities include: nature exploration, scavenger hunts, arts & crafts, and games.
When is the camp?

Where is the camp located?
Reins of Life Therapeutic Riding Center: 55200 Quince Road, South Bend. *Please note, there is construction along SR 2 from US 31 to Quince Road. Plan for slow downs.
Do parents/caregivers stay?
Parents are welcome to wait in the lobby/waiting area. There is also a Martins with a Starbucks, just 8 minutes away at the corner of SR 2 and Mayflower.
*Note for 2024, there will be construction occurring at ROL, including the waiting area inside the building. There may be days where the building is not accessible to parents.*
Can my typical child attend?
Certainly! This camp was designed to offer children with disabilities a camp opportunity they may not otherwise experience. But we love having peer playmates to model and share experiences.
Is this Occupational Therapy?
No, this is not formal occupational therapy. These are enrichment camps. But because Wendi is an occupational therapist, your child will participate in activities and receive support through the lens of an occupational therapist. Many parents find this a nice complement to traditional, medical therapies.
Can Wendi consult with my current OT?
Of course! With your signed permission, she would be more than happy to. Collaboration is the key to your child’s success.
What should my child wear?
We will be in the woods but staying on the mowed path. It is recommended that children wear long pants. Closed toed shoes are required. (No sandals or open toed shoes) Rain Boots are also allowed and encouraged on rainy days!
Sunscreen and bug spray are recommended and should be applied before we begin. (I nor volunteers will not apply to the children)
What about bad weather?
We will play outside rain or shine. Raincoats and boots are welcome if rain looks possible. We will not be outside during storms (check email before camp for final decisions).
Does my child need to be potty trained?
No. Accidents and changes will be discussed with parents individually. Please let Wendi know if this is a concern.
Is there a bathroom?
Yes. There is a bathroom in the building.
What should my child bring?
Water/drink and a smile.
What if my child does not like the camp?
We will try our best to encourage the child to stay the entire first day to adjust. If the child continues to be uncomfortable, we can talk individually to explore alternative ideas. We like children to explore outside their comfort zone, but we will not force any child to stay.
What is the cost?
$90 for a week
